Financial Literacy Workshop - Brisbane 11/3/22
Financial literacy is a key skill for all directors and committee members and is essential in fulfilling your legal and fiduciary duties and responsibilities to the club/s you govern. Club Directors are responsible for reviewing, analysing and interpreting the management accounts presented at board meetings and making decisions as to how to improve the club's financial performance and position. They are also responsible for signing off the year end financial statements of the club.

Modules covered in the beginners level Financial Literacy Workshop:
the importance of financial literacy and the financial reporting responsibilities and obligations imposed on club directors by the law
the financial reporting and audit obligations of the two most common legal structures of NFPs, namely: public companies limited by guarantee and incorporated associations
the components of an annual report and the significance of the directors’ declaration
the purpose of an external audit and the types of audit opinions
an overview of the three key financial statements, namely the balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows
using a real Qld club, participants will be guided through a simple step-by-step methodology on how to read, analyse and interpret the three key financial statements and draw conclusions
the course explains a range of key accounting concepts, such as accrual accounting, going concern, working capital, depreciation and amortization
key financial ratios used to analyse the club’s performance are also covered, including a range of liquidity, operating, financing and profitability ratios
the issue of insolvency is briefly considered, including the most common financial warning signs that an entity may be on the very of insolvency
Participants are strongly encouraged to bring their own club's most recent set of audited financial statements and apply the abovementioned step-by-step methodology to analyse and draw conclusions as to the financial performance and financial position of their own club.
After graduating from his undergraduate degree, Stephen worked for several years as a senior accountant and management consultant with Touche Ross & Co and KPMG in Brisbane within their management, consultancy and international business services divisions. He is currently employed as a full-time lecturer in the School of Accountancy at QUT teaching a range of undergraduate and postgraduate financial accounting and law subjects. Stephen has also been heavily involved in the establishment of the new Accountancy Capstone unit and is a regular presenter for both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and referred journal articles. He has provided consultancy services to several Queensland Government Departments, chartered accountancy firms and listed Australian companies on a range of taxation and IFRS issues. He also presents the Financial Literacy Component for directors courses at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

You must inform the Clubs Queensland in writing if you wish to cancel part or full registration at least seven (7) full working days prior to the Event/Training Course date to receive a full refund. Refunds will not be given if you cancel your registration within seven (7) full working days of the commencement of the Event/Training Course.
