This training is all about empowering your team by giving your staff the tools to:
- Recognise gambling-related behaviours
- Minimise potential harms
- Nurture a healthy venue environment for patrons and staff
Led by David McAnalen, Gambling Health Services Manager, this course includes three interactive and practical workshops:
- Gambling Health in Venues
- Helping Our Community
- Club Staff Health
1. Gambling Health in Venues
This workshop focuses on how all Club staff can recognise the signs and behaviours of people potentially experiencing a poor relationship to gambling. Each participant will gain:
- a deepened knowledge of what a poor relationship to gambling and gambling harms looks like;
- a greater understanding of gambling harms in and outside of gaming venues;
- an understanding that a poor relationship to gambling is an additional challenge, not the sole challenge. Insights into why gambling is a solution; and an appreciation of the importance of “Planting a Seed” through staff interactions; and
- greater awareness to support our whole community. Important for family and club staff.
2. Helping our Community
This workshop is designed to give participants opportunities to enhance their skill sets. Being able to engage gamblers, family members and staff with empathy to allow greater success with “Planting a Seed”, participants will gain:
- a better understanding of their own personality and develop better communication with all, in and around our gaming venues;
- an enhanced employee industry-based skills and knowledge;
- practical tools for enhancing their strengths and indeed challenges so they can be better in their day, work, relationships and emotional wellbeing;
- the ability to engage better with customers, patrons, guests, staff and management; and
- the ability to adapt and change as regulation and community expectations do.
3. Club Staff Help
This workshop is designed to give participants a deeper understanding of the benefits of taking self-care. Our work lives and home lives are becoming ever increasingly challenging. How do we ensure that we are the best versions of ourselves to benefit our communities? This workshop will:
- promote mental health and well-being awareness;
- teach simple self-care strategies you can use at work and at home; and
- ensure that staff understand that helping ourselves benefits our communities.
