Responsible Gambling Self Assessment Guide

Clubs Queensland has developed a resource to further improve ‘best practice’ throughout the not for profit community club sector.  The 20 page Guide and 20min DVD was sent to all community clubs in the state with gaming facilities as well as the gambling help services in November 2008.

The Guide provides staff with a structure to self assess their ability to assist others whilst also helping them establish links to on going support. The DVD provides staff with a greater insight into counselling provided by the Gambling Help Services.

Key elements that have been identified in the initiative are…
Gaming staff

  • need a structure for ongoing support after initial training
  • should have the opportunity to self assess their ability to assist others with responsible gambling matters
  • should have a structured link to confidential professional support to discuss any concerns in their role
  • require additional resources to maintain currency of their knowledge of responsible gambling matters
  • in remote areas require a resource that is accessible and that links with their existing training
  • must have a better understanding of what happens in counselling, so they can confidently explain types of support is offered to those seeking help

The above has been addressed in the Responsible Gambling Self Assessment and Support Guide and accompanying training DVD. This initiative is specifically targeted at Customer Liaison Officers and gambling staffs who are required to monitor and respond to responsible gambling matters.
