President
Don Seccombe, President
President, Redlands Sporting Club
(holds Office until 2012)

Don Seccombe was a foundation member of the Redlands Sporting Club Inc. when it was formed in 1980, elected as the inaugural President, holding Membership No 1.

Coming from a corporate business background where he was responsible for some 400 employees directly in his position as National Sales Manager for Incitec Ltd., he has been part of big business for many years.  Incitec sales at that time were approximately $700 million.

Utilising this background when the Club was formed, Don was instrumental in producing policies and procedures including all financial parameters under which the Club operated. Throughout the years that followed, Don has led the strategic planning, various feasibility studies, building and expansion plans, and project management to what the Club has become to-day.  The most recent of these expansions was completed in early 2007 at a cost of $12.3 million.  A testament to Don’s success is the fact that this expansion was completed without borrowing any funds – i.e. totally from cash flow and the Club remains debt-free under his leadership.

As well as the role of President of the Redlands Sporting Club, Don was elected as Mayor of Redlands Shire in 2001, then re-elected in 2004 until 2008.  His commitment to community via the mayoralty has been widely acclaimed and is also demonstrated by his leadership at Club level, ensuring that the Club is a major community provider.  With Don's guidance the Club provides unconditional voluntary contributions annually in cash of over $360,000 to sporting, community and charitable organisations. Sporting individuals, representing their state or country, are also widely supported.  The club provides club houses and facilities for cricket, bowls and bocce and extends its annual commitment to the community to well over $500,000.

As Mayor, Don was involved widely in regional affairs, being Chairman of the Southern Regional Organisation of Councils; Chairman of the Council of Mayors (SEQ) Regional Planning Committee, Chairman of the Healthy Waterways Moreton Bay Implementation Group and a member of the Regional Co-ordination Committee chaired by the Deputy Premier and involving six State Ministers, five SEQ mayors, and departmental heads.

This level of involvement with regional and state elected representatives and departmental personnel is seen as a distinct strength for Club's Qld for future liaison and negotiation.
