GENERAL QUESTIONNAIRE

This questionnaire needs to be completed if you are wanting to go in the running for a regional award eg. Best Club North Queensland and also completes some of the other questionnaires eg. Best Sports Club as certain scores will be taken across.  The General Questionnaire provides the judges with insight into the club as a whole and is pertinent in the judging process.  All questionnaires, including the General Questionnaire, are due in no later than Friday 16, November 2018.  The financial information that you need to submit to finalise your entries is due at a later date – refer to the Financial Checklist below for further information.

FINANCIAL CHECKLIST

Due to the entry process being moved forward this year in order to avoid the busy Christmas period and give clubs more time to prepare their submissions, we have extracted all the financial information required from every questionnaire and amalgamated it within the Financial Checklist.  The Financial Checklist is not due until Friday 8, February 2019 so that you have your audited financials completed.  The questions on this checklist will still be present on the various questionnaires but will have a note saying that they are not to be completed at this time and that they will appear on the checklist.

1. KONAMI GAMING - BEST LICENSED RSL AND/OR SERVICES CLUB AWARD

This award recognises a RSL and/or services club for the standard of the facilities it provides for members as well as its outstanding service to returned servicemen, women and the general community.

2. MULLINS - BEST BOWLS CLUB AWARD

Is your club all about bowling? Do you provide superior bowling and social facilities for your members and guests to enjoy? Do you promote the game of bowls to the community and offer development programs to support this? Then this category is for you.  We are after the club that has taken their interest in bowling to the next level.  If a Multi-Sports Club owns a Bowls Club, they are eligible to enter it into this category in addition to the Multi-Sports Club category.

3. CMBM FACILITY SERVICES PTY LTD -  BEST FOOTBALL CLUB AWARD

Which Queensland Football Club will add this accolade to its belt? We are looking for a club that encourages and supports any code of football, including junior and senior footballers, to enter and show us how passionate they are.  The standard of sporting and social facilities the club provides to members, along with how active they are within the local community, will showcase one Football Club to an advantage.  If a Multi-Sports Club owns a Football Club, they are eligible to enter it into this category in addition to the Multi-Sports Club category.

4. WESTPAC - BEST SURF LIFE SAVING SUPPORTERS CLUB AWARD

This award recognises a Surf Life Saving Supporters Club that provides financial and consistent high standard support to Surf Life Saving.  We will access the range and quality of facilities you provide to your members along with your community participation, junior development programs and your involvement with any major milestones.  Tell us why you think you are the Best Surf Life Saving Supporters Club and take out this award.

5. IGT - BEST SPORTS CLUB AWARD

A club that concentrates their core business activity on ONE particular sport (other than Bowls, Football and Surf) and has a consistently high standard of parallel facilities for that sport will be the recipient of this award.  If you are passionate about your particular sport and manage this well for your members and guests, then you are the ideal candidate for this category. A multi-sports club that has several affiliated separate sporting clubs under their umbrella can enter a particular club (other than bowls/football) into this category if it meets the criteria of a stand-alone single sports club.

6. J.J. RICHARDS - BEST MULTI-SPORTS CLUB AWARD

To win this award we are looking for a club that offers multiple sports to its members and has a consistently high standard of sporting and social facilities.  Do you win awards, do you achieve major milestones, how involved are you with the community, how important is offering a range of sport to you? If you are passionate about answering all of these sorts of questions, then enter now.

7. BEST COMMUNITY SERVICE BY A LICENSED CLUB 

Recognising a club that displays outstanding dedication to working with the community over and above the core purpose of the club itself, this award includes activities like providing donations, resources and use of club facilities.  It also takes into account the clubs’ support for community groups including sports, social, welfare, youth, charities, schools and the disadvantaged. Judges will also acknowledge both financial and in kind support. If you are a club that makes a difference to your local community, this is the category to enter.  Do note that this award focuses on the “community” and not the core purpose of the club which is covered by awards such as Best Bowls, Best Football, Best Sports Club etc.

8. SG GAMING ANZ PTY LTD - BEST SOCIAL CLUB AWARD

Does your club maximize its ability to allow members and guests to mingle, interact and socialise? Well if you also provide an excellent standard of service and variety of activities along with quality facilities to support this, then you may be the winner of the Best Social Club award.  The winning club will, in addition, offer outstanding support to its local community as well as focus on its own social culture.  Do note that this award focuses on the ‘social’ aspect of your club and not the core purpose which is covered by awards such as Best Bowls, Best Football, Best Sports Club etc.

9. TREASURY WINE ESTATES - BEST DINING

The best dining venue award will be given to the club that provides excellent food, service and value for money dining experiences in quality surrounds. An anonymous judge will complete a site inspection of your venue and evaluate a variety of aspects from the menu/s on offer, to the quality of service, cleanliness and ambience of the surroundings to your staff performance. The restaurant’s financial position is also considered.  

The anonymous site inspection of your nominated dining facility will take place between 6pm – 9pm on a Friday or Saturday at any stage between September to November 2018. You will not be notified prior or after this has occurred however a copy of your individual results will be available post Awards night.

In this category there may be two winners based on size – small and large – with the definition of a large club having dining revenue over $1million and a small club with dining revenue under $1 million.

10. BEST CLUB CAFÉ/COFFEE SHOP

For this award we are looking for clubs that provide an overall quality café/coffee shop experience.  From the ambiance, service and array of treats to the beverages including tea & coffee on offer.  The club that has great value for money, superior service to its customers and appropriate surrounds will be recognised for its efforts by taking home this award. Have you created the perfect social meeting space, do you see repeat patrons, do you cater for all age groups and are you confident you are the best in the business? We want to hear from you!

The anonymous site inspection of your nominated facility will take place between 11am – 2pm on a Saturday or Sunday at any stage between September to November 2018.  You will not be notified prior or after this has occurred however a copy of your site inspection will be available post the awards night.

11. ARISTOCRAT TECHNOLOGIES - BEST GAMING VENUE

A club that provides an enjoyable gaming experience for members and guests in an environment that respects members’ privacy, provides adequate information to players about the games on offer, while embracing the Queensland Responsible Gambling Code of Practice will be the proud recipient of this award. Other factors taken into consideration when determining this award include the ambience of the gaming area, customer service, staff training, knowledge of your operation and special features.

In this category there may be two winners based on size – small and large – with the definition of a large club being any club with 100 or more gaming machines.

The anonymous site inspection of your gaming area for this award will take place between 6pm – 9pm on a Wednesday, Friday or Saturday between September to November 2018.  You will not be notified prior or after this has occurred however a copy of your individual results will be forwarded to you post Awards night.

12. FOXTEL FOR BUSINESS, FOX SPORTS VENUES - BEST ENTERTAINMENT VENUE

A club that provides a range of quality entertainment options for members and guests in appropriately designed environments will have the honour of this accolade.  This will mean you provide a variety of quality acts, know how to market these, have suitable facilities for them and see benefit by increased patronage. Managed well, entertainment is a major draw card for patrons therefore increasing profit margins.  Will you take out this award?

13. MORETON HIRE - BEST EVENT FACILITIES AND SERVICES AWARD

Event space is advantageous for any club and can be a great source of revenue. There are many aspects to building a great event facility and this category will award the club that has it all.  In addition to analysing the financial side of your operations, we are looking at the function facilities available at your club, the pricing and packages you market, the quality food & beverage, how an event is managed from start to finish, customer service and complaint handling. It is quite a comprehensive category by nature so if you believe you are using your space to its full potential and offer a level of excellence, then we want you to enter.

14. ROHRIG GROUP - BEST CLUB REDEVELOPMENT (UNDER $2 MILLION)

A club that has been redeveloped (new build, refurbishment, alterations) in the past 12 months at a cost of less than $2 million will be eligible to enter this award. Clubs entering this award must have commenced operating in the new format prior to 1 October 2018 and will be assessed on the quality and innovation in the redevelopment, as well as the impact of the redevelopment on staff efficiency and patron happiness. The judge will be also looking at the intent of the design and if it was accomplished on or ahead of schedule and to budget.

15. BEST CLUB REDEVELOPMENT (OVER $2 MILLION)

16.  J.J. RICHARDS - AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING SAFETY

There are three key areas that you will be judged on for this award: Patron Safety, Club Commercial Safety and Staff Safety.

Safety is a key factor behind members and guests choosing to visit community clubs.  Clubs are responsible for ensuring the safety of their staff and patrons’ and must also protect the commercial viability of the club for the benefit of the local community.

1. Patron Safety is the ability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of members and guests from arrival to departure incorporating work health and safety, food hygiene, emergency preparedness and response and venue security.

2. Club Commercial Safety is the security of the business operations to protect the interests of member assets incorporating human resources, corporate governance, strategic planning, training and regulatory compliance.

3. Staff Safety
is key to all workplace health and safety issues and strategic ongoing training must be provided in order to obtain outstanding safety levels.

17. ROWLAND - BEST CLUB DIVERSIFICATION

A club that has successfully established business operations, joint ventures and/or revenue streams beyond those traditionally associated with your club will be the recipient of this award. For the purposes of this award, revenue streams traditionally associated with a club are defined as membership fees, gaming revenues and standard food and beverage revenues.  Diversification may include initiatives such as amalgamating with another venue, operating a gym, developing hotels, aged care facilities, retail complexes, health and wellness infrastructure, and facilities/projects external to your physical venue.

18. KENO - BEST KENO OPERATION

This category will be judged in three parts with the primary marks based on the volume turnover in Keno and percentage increase in Keno turnover during the past calendar year. Secondary to this, you will be asked why you believe you are the best Keno operation in Queensland, specifically outlining your Keno facilities and marketing campaigns. The Best Keno Operation is one that supports Keno sales from various directions, including a solid strategic plan to increase results that incorporates top line facilities, trained staff to manage the service and strong marketing to capture patrons.

19. KENO - KENO COORDINATOR OF THE YEAR

Excellence in service and support, as well as the contribution that a club’s Keno Coordinator has made to the game, will determine which Queensland community club industry Keno Coordinator will take this award home.

20. TABCORP - BEST TAB WAGERING OPERATION IN A CLUB - Formerly Best UBET Wagering Operation in a Club

To win this award we are looking for a club that runs a dynamic and well executed TAB wagering operation. The wagering turnover plays a major factor in judging the success of this operation however judges will also access the venue presentation including décor and ambiance and how this integrates with the rest of the club. Further, the judges will consider how current you keep this operation including staff training, marketing and promotions. Convince us that your TAB operation is the best in the State and you will take out the category.

21. SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING

The importance of managing gaming responsibly goes without saying in clubs, so here we are looking for a club that excels. Not only must the club be compliant but it must go that step further. Please show us how the club creates a safe, supportive environment for gaming patrons. Please also detail excellence in the areas of community liaison, staff training and the implementation of responsible gaming initiatives. Do you have a global approach to gaming, do you manage it well, are you there for your patrons when they need you?

22. SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – RESPONSIBLE SERVICE OF ALCOHOL

The responsible service of alcohol is important as it creates support and expectations for clubs to encourage sensible drinking and assists in reducing alcohol related problems both on and off premise.  It is mandatory in Queensland for anyone that works in a job that sells or serves alcohol to complete a RSA course.

Taking home this award will be a club that serves alcohol to members and guests in a responsible manner.  Judges want to see a club that takes ownership of RSA and approaches it with a well-rounded strategy, exceeding the Government’s code of conduct.  Criteria will include evidence that staff have been trained in RSA, provision of security and CCTV and the availability of meals and non-alcoholic beverages.

23. XXXX -  BEST CLUB IN A RURAL COMMUNITY

The main criteria for this award is that the club must be located where the permanent population is less than 15,000 people in a regional area.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations.  There is no entry form for this category as any club that completes a General Questionnaire that fits the criteria for this award will automatically be placed into the running.

24. RYDGES HOTELS & RESORTS - BEST CLUB FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND

Far North Queensland is defined as the area beginning at the town of Cardwell, west to the border of the Northern Territory and north including Cape York Peninsula.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

25. GREAT NORTHERN -  BEST CLUB NORTH QUEENSLAND 

North Queensland is defined as the area south of Cardwell to Prosperine and west to the Northern Territory border.  The towns of Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Cloncurry and Mt Isa are included.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

26. BEST CLUB CENTRAL QUEENSLAND

Central Queensland is defined as the area from south of Prosperine to the Capricorn Highway and west to the Northern Territory border including the towns of Blackwater, Emerald, Clermont, Barcaldine, Longreach, Winton and Gladstone in the east.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.

27. ARUZE GAMING - BEST CLUB WIDE BAY

Wide Bay is defined as the area south of the Capricorn Highway (excluding Gladstone) to the north of Gympie and west to Moura.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

28. COCA-COLA AMATIL - BEST CLUB DARLING DOWNS & SOUTH-WEST QUEENSLAND

Darling Downs & South-West Queensland is defined as the area from west of Laidley to the western border of Queensland and the rest of the state not elsewhere mentioned The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

29. PRINTCRAFT (QLD) PTY LTD - BEST CLUB SUNSHINE COAST

The Sunshine Coast is defined as the area north from Bribie Island to Gympie and west to Proston.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

30. AINSWORTH GAME TECHNOLOGY - BEST CLUB GOLD COAST

The Gold Coast is defined as the area south from Beenleigh to the border of NSW and to Boonah.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.

31. ODYSSEY GAMING - BEST CLUB BRISBANE NORTH

Brisbane North is defined as the area south of Bribie Island to the north of the Brisbane River.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

32. BEST CLUB BRISBANE SOUTH

Brisbane South is defined as the area south of the Brisbane River to the north of Beenleigh and west to Laidley.  The award takes into consideration all areas of the club and its operations and can be entered by completing the General Questionnaire.  

33. CLUB SUPER - YOUNG MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD

In order to take out this award, consideration will be given to all activities the nominee performs in their role of manager and will include the initiative they have shown within the club and their community. Judges will also look at their qualifications, any past and current training undertaken and outstanding achievements. The nominee must be dynamic, well rounded and passionate about their position at your club. Do you have the person who we are looking for?  

A young Club Manager is defined as being under the age of 30 years as at 1 March 2019 and must have worked a minimum of one full year at the club.  You can enter more than one Young Manager on separate entries if you wish.

34. CLUB CHEF OF THE YEAR

Do you harbour the best Club Chef in Queensland?  This award is designed to recognise the skills of chefs and catering staff working within registered and licensed clubs in Queensland through their culinary abilities, creativity and innovation. The award is open to financial members of Clubs Queensland, including those clubs with private catering facilities.  If you have a Chef that is a clear stand out, that has great feedback, is creative, knows your clientele and the budget then enter them now in this prestigious award that will recognise both them and your club for years to come.  They must create two dishes for judging following specific rules so please ensure these are read and referred to thoroughly through the submission process.

The top 5 finalists will be announced on Monday, 3 December 2018. The judge will then visit the top 5 finalists sometime during December 2018 to determine the winner.

35. CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES - CLUB DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

An honorary club director who has provided valuable service to the club over a number of years and who may have broader community involvement will be a strong contender for this award.  Judging criteria includes participation in director training, outstanding service to the club and contributing to the viability of the club.

36. LION BEER AUSTRALIA - CLUB SECRETARY / MANAGER OF THE YEAR AWARD

The winner of this award will go to a club manager who is responsible for running a successful club. The winner will have a high level of management skill and community engagement along with the demonstrated ability to grow a business.  The nominee must have worked a minimum of 2 full years at the club prior to 26 March 2019.
